4 sustainable shopping strategies

for a greener wardrobe

4 sustainable shopping strategies for a greener wardrobe

At the end of the year, a lot of people think more consciously about what they would like to achieve, and what their goals are. And maybe not just goals for personal benefit, but also for our environment and the world. For example, how can I shop more sustainably without compromising my love for fashion? The fashion sector is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions, by doing fast fashion. The answer to this question is conscious consumption. We inform you of six easy ways to obtain sustainable shopping habits.

1. Shop second first
Did you know that out of 900 million clothing pieces (and accessories) that come into the market yearly, 6% remains unsold? This is an average of 11-32 million unsold fashion items that are being destroyed, according to research by the Council for the Living Environment and Infrastructure. The landfilling and burning of fashion waste produce a huge amount of carbon emissions. And how can we reduce this? The answer is by shopping second first.

Pre-owned fashion has many benefits, for you and the environment. If you would like to read everything about the benefits of pre-owned luxury shopping, you can read a blog that we wrote about the topic by clicking here. Circular fashion is the future of fashion.

2. Try to reduce impulse shopping
Let’s be honest, we have all been or are sometimes impulsive when it comes to a beautiful item that we see. A real “must-have.” So how can you control this and make a well-considered choice?

  • Create and write down your budget
  • Make a wardrobe list. By writing down things out of your wardrobe that you wear frequently. For example, you can more easily mix & match with a new accessory you are planning to purchase.

The main questions you ask yourself here are: can I style the item with my main wardrobe pieces that I wear weekly, and does it fit within my budget?

3. Quality over quantity
This is a very important one! If you want to start buying less, purchasing a high-quality item is a must. This way you can enjoy it, for sometimes, even a lifetime (and if you do get tired of it, you can sell it to a second owner so he or she can enjoy the high-quality piece). Trust us: you will be better off choosing quality items that you know you are going to love today and forever.

Especially when you are looking at pre-loved designer items, the items are well-made with quality materials that will stay in good condition for many years. On top of that, items of fashion houses such as CHANEL and LOUIS VUITTON, are timeless fashion.

4. Sell before you buy
As we mentioned above, why not share what you love? By selling items you already have, you can save up money for a new item that you wish to purchase. This way you also help reduce the fast fashion market, by making the fashion world more circular. Did you know you can sell your luxury designer item to la boutique PARIS?
