8 things to keep in mind while traveling with your designer item

During these rainy and cold days, exotic holiday destinations are calling our names. Time to go out and experience new places. Almost everyone will know how to prepare for travel. Packing the luggage, making sure the paperwork is in order, and arranging how to arrive at the destination. And we can understand you want to take your luxury handbag or wallet for example, as you especially love to use those for special occasions. And yes, a holiday is a special occasion! Traveling with luxury designer items can however give some challenges, especially if you have never traveled with one before. We provide you with 8 tips regarding traveling with your beloved designer item.

  1. Check the rules
A very important tip, especially when you decide to travel outside of Europe. Customs have rules when it comes to traveling with expensive items. If you are traveling to the Netherlands and you take an item with you that is worth more than €430, whether or not you will have to submit a declaration at customs, depends on the country from which you are traveling. Usually, from EU countries you do not have to submit it, while for countries outside the EU, you will have to. Always check the rules before you travel with your designer item.

  2. Save the proof of purchase
We assume when you purchase a designer item, you will save the proof of purchase anyway. But did you know this can be asked as well at the airport when you travel with it? Airports are checking more strictly on money laundering. So, when you are traveling with your amazing, luxury Chanel handbag, they might pick you out of the cue and ask some questions.

  3. Travel insurance
It is advisable to take travel insurance and check in what way they cover any damage or loss of your belongings while traveling. This way you can relax more when you take that deserved trip.

  4. Luggage tracker
Did you know there are luggage trackers on the market, so you can track your luggage in case you have luggage that gets lost/stolen? This might be very useful, especially when you travel with expensive items.
When it comes to packing, there are a few important tips to keep in mind:

    • Keep your designer item close to you. Try to make sure it will be in your hand luggage, instead of checked luggage (if possible). This way the chance of damage and/or loss is smaller. You will have control over your luggage and handle it with great care and love.
    • In case you have the original dust bag of a designer handbag, it will be good to use it while traveling. It protects the handbag from scratches and color transfer due to contact with other items. You don´t have a dust bag? No worries, you can also use a pillow cover. This serves perfectly as a ‘dust bag’ for your beloved handbag.
    • Keep it away from the edges of your suitcase
    • Your designer handbag is very important, and we understand you want to treat it such as. Make a nice and cozy cradle for the handbag in your luggage, by placing for example rolled clothes on the edges. This way you create a soft barrier for it.
  5. Avoid placing it on the floor while traveling
We think we can all agree that a Chanel or Louis Vuitton does not belong on the floor. Try to avoid placing your handbag on the floor while traveling. Be aware of where you place it, especially in public places or high-traffic areas. Here it can easily be stepped or bumped on. You can consider taking hooks or chair backs.

  6. Act with caution in crowded areas
This applies to the risk of accidental collisions but also robbery. Keep the designer item close to your body and always in front of you, so you have it in your vision and control.

  7. Be careful with liquids and cosmetics
It is important to separate cosmetics and liquids from your handbag. Store them in leak-proof containers and in a sealed package (which is usually required in the hand luggage by the airline), to prevent accidental stains or spills. Now that you have tips to travel with your luxury designer item, you can shine on your holiday or business trip!
